FAQ

I get asked a lot of questions on a daily basis and sometimes I cannot answer them for people, so I thought I would answer them for everyone to see here on my frequently asked questions page.

 

Q. WHAT AGE DID YOU START ATHLETICS?

A. I started little athletics when I was 11 years of age at Helensvale Little Athletics Centre


Q. HOW DID YOU GET INTO HURDLES?

A. I started hurdling when I was about 13 years of age when my coach wanted me to try it and I haven’t looked back.


Q. WHEN YOU WERE YOUNG DID YOU ALWAYS WIN?

A. When I was younger there were a lot of girls who were faster than me. I never used to win all my races, but I always had fun doing them.


Q. DID YOU PLAY ANY OTHER SPORTS WHEN YOU WERE YOUNGER?

A. When I was younger I used to do a few sports. I started gymnastics when I was 4 years of age and I also did swimming at the same time. While I was at school I played netball and played one season of soccer and also touch football.


Q. WHEN/WHERE WAS YOUR FIRST INTERNATIONAL MEET?

A. My first international meet was at the world youth championships in 2003 IN Sherbrook, Canada at the age of 16. I competed in the 200m and also the 100m hurdles. I won the hurdles and came 5th in the 200m


Q. HOW DO YOU UNWIND AFTER A MEET?

A. It can be hard to unwind after meet especially if I have run a good race. I always like to get to bed ASAP after a meet to try and rest for the next one. I find it easy to get into bed and close my eyes and try and relax as much as possible while taking deep breaths. But as long as you are resting even if you cant sleep then your body will recover.


Q. HOW LONG DO YOU TRAIN FOR?

A. I train six days a week and each session lasts about 90 minutes my pool session only lasts 20minutes and my gym session lasts an hour.


Q. WHAT IS YOUR LEAST FAVORITE TRAINING SESSION?

A. My least favorite session is on Saturdays. My coach likes to call them the gut
sessions. Sometimes we can do up to 4x400m with 3 grass hill runs in between each of the 400meters


Q. WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE SESSION?

A. My favourite sessions are anything to do with speed. I like to run out of blocks, that is always fun.


Q. DO YOU STILL GET NERVOUS BEFORE A COMPETITION?

A. I still get nervous before a competition. I feel if I am not nervous then I am not ready but you always have to try and control your nerves so they don’t control you.


Q. IF YOU WEREN’T DOING ATHLETICS WHAT SPORT WOULD YOU DO?

A- I have always loved the sport of gymnastics, but unfortunately in most cases you have to retire at a young age, I also like tennis I think that looks like a lot of fun.


Q. DO YOU THINK YOU CAN BREAK THE WORLD RECORD?

A. I would like to think that I could break the world record. I don’t think that I have run as fast as I can yet, so yes I believe anything is possible.


Q. APART FROM TRAINING WHAT HELPS YOU ACHIEVE YOUR BEST?

A. I receive regular physio and massage to keep my body at it’s best. I also think that my support group around helps me get through the hard times when I am feeling very tired from training.


Q. WHO IS YOUR IDOL?

A. I do not have a specific idol. I like a lot of athletes for different reasons. Cathy Freeman is probably the person that I would look up to the most though.


Q. WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR MOTIVATION?

A. I get the motivation from myself. I love what I do and have so much fun doing it. I believe that is the biggest key for an athlete.


Q. WHAT OTHER SPORTS DO YOU LIKE TO WATCH?

A. I like to watch a few sports, but the main ones are tennis and also the Moto GP. My husband is a big motor sports fan and has made me appreciate it a lot more.


Q. WHERE IS YOUR FAVOURITE COUNTRY?

A. I really love the beauty of Switzerland, with all its breathtaking mountains.


Q. WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE COLOUR?

A. I love the colour Red.


Q. WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE ANIMAL?

A. I love most animals but I think my favorite it the Cheetah


Q. DO YOU HAVE ANY PETS?

A. Yes I have two amazing golden retrievers Oscar and Toby. I don’t know what I would do with out them. Every time I come home they make me smile even if I am having a bad day
